Set in the southern region of Dong Nai Province, Tri An Lake is one of the area’s best and least well-known hidden gems. This body of water was originally constructed as a location to store water for the province’s Tri An Power Plant, but it has evolved to be an excellent recreation site used mainly by locals.
The size of Tri An Lake is about 323 square kilometers and is home to an abundance of fish, along with two islands that boast incredible views and serene environments for enjoying nature.
Activities
Tri An Lake may be manufactured and was initially built for utility, but it’s also an excellent area to connect with the great outdoors and escape the city for a bit.
Picnic on the Islands
There are two isles in the lake, Chim O Island and Dong Truong Island. Chim O has an area of 2.1 hectares/5 acres, and Dong Truong is 22 hectares/54 acres, both with ample space and picnic tables to relish a meal outside. The views from the islands of the Cat Tien National Park mountains are ideal for taking photos or going for a stroll in the natural environment.
Fishing
The lake is stocked with plenty of fish, specifically Ca Lang and Hemibargus breeds. Locals and overnighters in the area can have fun catching their own food for the night, and these fish are versatile with the option to cook them up in many different ways.
Swimming & Paddle Boarding
Tri An Lake is safe to swim and paddleboard in, making it a hot spot for the summertime. Boarding or swimming out to the islands is a great workout and can even have an extra challenge on a windy day. There aren’t any restaurants by the lake, so if you plan to get some intense exercise, be sure to bring your own food and water.
Spend the Night At Tri An Lake
Tri An Lake can be an exciting place to spend the night, as boats are available to rent out for sleeping in. Visitors that choose to camp here will have to remember that since this isn’t a developed tourist attraction, there aren’t many amenities for this type of lodging. However, it can also make for a uniquely rural and calming camping experience.
During the evening hours, campers can rent a fireplace and enjoy some warmth by the flames while gazing at the stars above.
Hike or Explore the Forest
Another way to take in the beautiful scenery is to stroll through the lake area and participate in some low-level, relaxing hiking. There aren’t any strenuous trails, but more for families and people who like to focus on enjoying the environment.
Ma Da Forest is right on the lake and home to many varieties of birds, squirrels, and their famous yellow butterflies. More than 40 wild vegetables with health benefits grow in the area and are often used for cooking meals while spending the night.
Watch the Sunset
Waking up at the crack of dawn to see the sunrise over the water is one of the best parts of staying the night on the lake. Get your camera ready, as these views will create lasting memories for you and anyone you’re traveling with.
Getting There
Directions: Take the National Highway 1A towards Dong Nai River, then go straight to Hanoi Highway and turn on Dieu Xien Street. Follow it, continuing directly on 761 to Tri An lake.
