Guide to Visiting Free Public Parks in Vietnam

Public parks in Vietnam are refreshing spaces that provide refuge from the hecticness of the busy cities. Many parks have walking paths and grassy areas where locals like to exercise in the mornings, do yoga, or decompress with an evening stroll.

Occasionally, festivals or events are held in public parks, like Book Festival for Children, held annually at the 30/4 Park in Ho Chi Minh City. While some of the smaller towns in Vietnam have public parks, they are most popular in bigger cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

City parks vary by location, but overall they are pleasant outdoor areas for getting fresh air. Here are a few of the ones worth visiting on your next trip to Vietnam.

Crescent Lake Park, Ho Chi Minh City

Situated in District 7, Crescent Lake Park, also known as “Ho Ban Nguyet Park” by locals, has many open spaces with greenery that is relaxing and fun to hang out with friends or family. Aside from being a good picnic spot, this park is also home to its popular Starlight Bridge, which becomes illuminated with hundreds of LED lights as soon as the sun has set on Thursdays through Sundays for a four-hour window.

Yersin Park, Da Lat

Yersin Park is typically crowded in the summertime but comprises 11 hectares of land divided into six sections. This park offers plenty of space for kite flying, driving electric car toys, or kicking around a soccer ball. The beautiful scenery includes many of the region’s local flowers, making this park an ideal place for taking photographs.

Thong Nhat Park, Hanoi

Free to visit, Thong Nhat Park in the nation’s capital is an excellent choice for visitors who want to enjoy some outdoor activities on their trip. This is one of the city’s most famous public parks and comes with a lake, lots of wildflowers, and decorative plants. There’s also a children’s area with a mirror house, Ferris wheel, and small boats.

Indira-Gandhi Park, Hanoi

Indira-Gandhi Park is a beautifully manicured public park where locals enjoy working out, and filmmakers flock to film the stunning scenery. There’s a stone-paved path around the lake, which also has a fountain in its middle, and strategically placed trees to provide sitting areas with shade.

Yen So Park, Hanoi

Yen So Park is gorgeously landscaped with plenty of trees and a large surface lake. This is the only park that allows guests to BBQ grill for events, and they have grills available to rent. Visitors can also rent a bicycle at this park for a fee to get some exercise and have a nice ride around the area.

These public parks are just a few of the local and tourist favorites in the country. All of them serve as fantastic escapes from the busy cities and are great for reconnecting with nature.
