The Ngo Dong River (Song Ngo Dong) can be found in the Ninh Binh Province, about 100km from Hanoi. Surrounded by grand limestone mountains, secretive caves, and beautiful greenery, Ngo Dong is renowned for its beauty.
This river passes through the popular Tam Coc – a stunning slice of serene natural beauty that is akin to a miniature Ha Long Bay. Also known as Three Caves, the site is a beloved tourist spot and there are plenty of river cruises available.
Rice paddies and fields run parallel to the river and these become flooded during the wet season. There’s also a dense population of trees and shrubs nearby. Due to intense flooding, the fields only have one rice crop per year, meaning that farming is an impossibility.
You can also take a cycling tour through Tam Coc and Cuc Phuong National Park. Vietnam’s oldest natural park covers over 220,000 hectares and is the home of hundreds of tropical plants, trees, and bird species.
The flowing beauty of the Ngo Dong River passes through several areas of stunning natural beauty. One of the main highlights of Ninh Binh Province, it’s certainly worth visiting.
