Landmark 81 in HCMC

Landmark 81 – HCMC

Holding the title of the tallest building in Vietnam, as well as Southeast Asia, Landmark 81 is a must-see spectacle. Rising above the city streets, this skyscraper has a distinct, modern architectural style.

Landmark 81 is a mixed-use building that features offices, apartments, a hotel, dining, high-end shopping, and an observation deck.

Tallest Building in Vietnam

Part of an urban complex, Landmark 81 is located in the Vinhomes Central Park in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The park is a part of the Binh Thanh District, which covers the Western bank of the Saigon River.

Only a couple hundred meters from the Saigon Bridge, Landmark 81 has become the center of the action as it draws in hundreds of workers, residents, and visitors.

Quick stats:

  • Developer: Vinhomes
  • Construction: 2015-2018
  • Opened: July 2018
  • Height: 469 meters/1,540 feet (including spire)
  • Observatory: 383 meters/1,256 feet
  • Floors: 81
  • Floor Area: 2,590,000 square feet
  • Features: High-end retail | Dining & Bars | Luxury hotel | Multi-story observation deck

Design

Designed by Atkins, a British architectural company, Landmark 81’s style is considered to be neo-futuristic. Relying heavily on glass, the building has a total of 81 floors, however, the spire is included in the final measured height. Not open to the public, the spire features antennas that broadcast throughout Ho Chi Minh City.

Using a bundled system, the building has 36 square tubes of differing heights. The tallest tubes are placed in the center while the shorter tubes sit on the exterior. Similar in design to Chicago’s Willis Tower, the bundled system represents much more in Vietnam.

Similar in construction to the unique shape of bamboo, the building’s architecture embodies the plant and its symbolism of strength and unity. Landmark 81 takes this aspect of Vietnamese culture and gives it a modern twist.

Observation Deck

Officially named Skyview, Landmark 81’s observation deck spans multiple floors at the top of the building. Covering floors 79 to 81, each floor of the Skyview observation deck has its own attractions, including:

  • A coffee lounge on the 79th floor
  • A VR game called “Top of Vietnam” on the 80th floor that simulates parachuting off of Landmark 81
  • An open terrace on the 81st-floor boasting 360-degree views of Ho Chi Minh City

Things to do in Landmark 81

When looking at an official floor plan, it is clear that each section of the building was designed to have its own purpose. The lowest floors are reserved for parking and shopping, making it easily accessible to visitors to the area.

Private residences fill the mid-section, meanwhile, above the apartments, there is a luxury hotel. Everything is then topped off with the Skyview observation deck.

High-End Shopping

A parking garage and three floors of retail comprise the base of Landmark 81. Named the Vincom Center, the building also boasts the largest shopping mall in Ho Chi Minh City.

Technically split into two centers, Landmark 81 features the newest shops, with many luxury brands establishing flagship stores, giving visitors access to all their favorite items.

Popular international brands include Jimmy Choo, Ralph Lauren, Hugo Boss, and Armani as well as local brands include An Phuoc and Bata. While luxury brands are available, visitors can enjoy perusing through multiple departments including fashion, home goods, electronics, and markets.

Food is aplenty in the Vincom Center providing a complete food court to guests. Offering various cuisines on the menu, visitors can take their pick from local or international flavors.

If you like fresh bread and assorted goods, the Paris Baguette Bakery is a great option, but if you prefer trying local flavors, head to the Seoul Garden or the sushi bar. For a taste of America, there is a Carl’s Jr. and various ice cream parlors.

Life of Luxury

The floors above the shopping center at Landmark 81 are reserved for private residences. Floors 4 and 5 are residential shared space, which includes a clubhouse and lounge. The apartments begin on floor 6 and continue until floor 41, offering studios, apartments, and super VIP residences.

Known for its steep prices, most visitors won’t be looking to establish permanent residence, however, online rental services have a few of Landmark 81’s exclusive residences available on a nightly basis.

Hotel with a View

Luxury doesn’t stop at the residences. For a complete hotel experience, with round the clock service, guests may want to consider booking a stay at the Vinpearl Hotel.
