The Han River Bridge, located in Da Nang, is known throughout Vietnam as the ‘’people’s bridge”. Constructed by Vietnamese architects and engineers, it serves as a monument for the native citizens’ resourcefulness and ingenuity.
The Han River Bridge was opened in 2000 and is Vietnam’s only cable-stayed swing bridge. Spanning 487 m long, the structure is composed entirely of steel and concrete. Since its construction, it has played a vital part in Da Nang’s rise to significance.

Although not quite as famous as the nearby Dragon Bridge, the Han River Bridge still attracts its fair share of sightseers. Both tourists and locals, alike, flock to the bridge to witness its unique swinging function, which was designed to aid with boat traffic.
At midnight during weekdays and 11 pm on weekends, traffic is prohibited from crossing the bridge to allow it to turn on its axis. Crowds often gather on the banks of the river to watch and record the bridge perform its famous twists and turns. It’s also illuminated by bright LED lights, making it visible across the whole city of Da Nang.
The Han River Bridge remains a favorite throughout Da Nang not only as a means of transportation but also as a symbol of the people. While its magnificence may have been partially eclipsed by the Dragon Bridge, it’s still an iconic part of the emerging city of Da Nang and the Han River.
