The amazing and modern-looking Can Van Lau Theater is located in Hung Vuong Square of Bac Lieu City. This one-of-a-kind venue comprises three buildings: an opera house, a meeting center, and an exhibition shaped to resemble the conical Vietnamese hats and a nod to the country’s culture.
Some people speculate that the three buildings together also represent Vietnam’s northern, central, and southern regions. Around the theater is Lotus Lake, adding to the visual beauty and serenity of the complex.
Performing Arts Venue in Mekong Delta Region
Many of the events at Can Van Lau Theater are folk performances to keep the vibe of the local culture alive. It was named after the famed Vietnamese musician, Can Van Lau, who is thought of as the “father of Cai Luong music,” a genre that was born in the 1920s. Two of his most famous songs are “Dạ cổ hoài lang,” a Vietnamese love song, and “Vọng cổ.”
From Ho Chi Minh City, travelers can reach the theater by plane or bus. The bus ride is about five to six hours long but is significantly cheaper than a flight. Taking a taxi is another option, and while it is a shorter trip than the bus, it is much more expensive.
